Driver Fatigue: Sleepy Driver Causes Damage To Nashville Business

Mitch Grissim, Personal Injury Nashville, Auto Accident Lawyer Nashville,

We know that drivers who fall asleep behind the wheel can injure people, damage property, or even take lives.

It’s a situation that is often overshadowed by driving while intoxicated or driving while distracted, but driving while tired can be just as dangerous. As car accident lawyers in Nashville, we know that drivers who fall asleep behind the wheel can injure people, damage property, or even take lives. Here at Mitch Grissim & Associates we believe that when drivers get behind the wheel knowing that they are incredibly tired, it’s as careless as any other reckless behavior.

A ‘sleepy’ driver is believed to have caused a lot of damage to a Middle Tennessee business just last week. According to reports, a man was driving when he fell asleep behind the wheel and smashed into a local tire shop. Customers and employees alike had to dive out of the way to avoid being hit by the runaway vehicle.

According to a witness, “I hear the squealing tires and 20 seconds later I just hear ‘boom.'” Another witness said, “I couldn’t believe it. I mean, I stood in shock. I couldn’t believe this was actually happening.”

The story didn’t end there, though. The driver was either dazed or frightened because he actually tried to keep driving. He rammed a post multiple times until it was torn from its foundation. Some witnesses even said the man was angry that people were trying to confront him. One said, “He actually got irate for guys coming to talk to him and ask what’s going on.”

After causing a lot of destruction at the tire shop, the driver tried to drive away. He didn’t get far before he was stopped by police. There isn’t word if he’ll be facing any charges.

It’s important to always stay alert while driving. Driving while fatigued takes lives. Here are some tips from Nashville car accident lawyers:

  • Always get a good night’s sleep before start a long drive.
  • Take breaks from driving every two hours.
  • Don’t travel at times when you would normally be sleeping.
